In PDP and APC do we have many men who are time tested seadogs
2023 BREWING CULT WAR : PYRATE CONFRATERNITY CONDEMNS ALLEDGE SONG AGAINST TINUBU
The National Association of Seadogs aka Pyrate Confraternity has defended her members who were seen in a recent viral video during the groups Lagos Convention singing a song relating to the now viral slang “EMI L’OKAN attributed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The leadership of the NAS in its release said it was done with no intentions to malign anyone in particular as their songs are drawn from the spur of the moment creatively for entertainment purposes only with membership cutting across all political parties.
Despite NAS disclaimer, pundits believe if such incidences are not properly managed it may result in several cult groups publicly identifying with political parties thereby increasing the palpable tension already existing in the political space, particularly because cult groups tends to stand by one another through whatever means.
Push News 24 International reports a comment credited to a known cultists on his social media page as been a sympathy attempt by NAS to support one of their own.

“I have watched the trending video of the revered and worldwide adored Pyrates Fraternity video, a beloved Association that I’m proud to belong, where they ruled out Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a candidate in our ongoing convention taking place in Lagos State.
“As customary with the fraternity to use songs to pass messages to society, towards condemning or supporting individuals, government or policies, I find this particular song in bad taste, especially with the way an uninformed member posted it on social media.
“Yes, Peter Obi is one of us, a dedicated Pyrate who has led by the tenets we were baptised with. He has always promoted the ideals of Pyracy during his days as a Governor and has contributed to the frat as a whole.
“It is proper we support one of our own to ascend the number position in Nigeria after getting the number two in Namadi Sambo. We do know that with Peter Obi as President, the just society that we want will be achieved and the ills militating against a just society that we fight will be reduced.
“While it is in our inner consciousness to gyrate towards one of our very best to be President, it is improper to promote it publicly.
“In PDP and APC do we have many men who are time tested seadogs, men in very high places and the best where they are.
“We cannot publicly disown these men who support Tinubu with their whole life or will die for Atiku Abubakar to emerge as President for Peter Obi.
“Peter Obi is better but moderation is also everything.”

While the NAS leadership still claims to be verifying the alleged video and its implications, a release from NAS states:
“Pyrates Confraternity is not an illegal or clandestine organisation, but a private organisation. This means that while they are not a secret society, in the sense many people understand cultism, a number of its activities are purely for those who are members of the organisation.
“Pyrates Confraternity will not endorse any political aspirant and will never give instructions to its members to vote for or campaign for any candidate. They recognise the fact that its membership cuts across various political and ideological loyalties.
“The Emi Lokan song is not a campaign against anyone or any political Party, neither is it an endorsement of any political Party for the forthcoming election.
“Like every art, music is inspired by trends and realities of history and topical issues and Pyrates from my personal observation of their styles and philosophies creates its songs from popular issues and topics. Depending on what side you are on, someone could actually see the song as promoting Tinubu’s candidacy, because it was taken from his speech, which is believed helped to solidify his chances at securing the APC nomination.
“Peter Obi is the candidate of all Nigerians, and among Seadogs are those who, like other Nigerians, believe that he has the key to unlock Nigeria’s greatness, but that cannot be an official standpoint of the organisation.”

Push News 24 International reports thst Prof Wole Soyinka and seven others founded Pyrates Confraternity when he was a student in Ibadan, Nigeria. The mandate of the confraternity was to fight for human rights and social justice in Nigeria but recent happenstance by the group.in and out of the campus has shown some departures from its objectives.

The University of Ibadan graduate reprimanded those who believe the Pyrates is a cult, saying that they are ignorant of the association’s objectives.
He also wondered why intelligent and knowledgeable Nigerians chose to misplace the difference between a secret cult with the confraternity.
He said: “Who wants to rehabilitate the image of what? There is no image that I know of the Pyrates Confraternity, which needs rehabilitating with anybody. If people choose to be ignorant and yet to pronounce on the object of their ignorance, well, who is to blame for that?
“If a public as intelligent and knowledgeable as we have in Nigeria chooses to equate the description secret cult with the word confraternity, well, whose fault is that? Go back to school and go and learn the difference between secret cult and confraternity.
“I am saying that many comments that I have heard and read make it very clear that 99 per cent of those who read or speak in public simply do not understand that there is a world of difference between a secret cult and a confraternity or a fraternity. There is a veneer of the cultic in the Pyrates Confraternity but that does not make the Pyrates a secret cult, and even less an evil secret cult,” Soyinka added.
Soyinka insisted he would not relent to bear with pride the ‘’guilt of’’ being a Pyrates, stating that such “guilt is the guilt of the ignorance and the stubbornness of the outer society”.
National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity) was founded in 1952 at the University of Ibadan, by seven similar-minded undergraduates.
