AMUWO ODOFIN COUNCIL BOSS, SANUSI, OLAWESTERN CHARGE ON PVC AS INDIGENTS PERSONS BENEFITS FROM THE FED. GOVT. CASH TRANSFER SCHEME

PUSH NEWS 24 INTERNATIONAL: June 21, 2022

AMUWO ODOFIN COUNCIL BOSS, SANUSI, OLAWESTERN CHARGE ON PVC AS INDIGENTS PERSONS BENEFITS FROM THE FED. GOVT. CASH TRANSFER SCHEME

The event was another flag-off of the Federal government Cash Transfer program where eligible indigents persons in Amuwo Odofin community were giving stipends to support themselves and immediate families.

Push News 24 International can confirm that over the last two decades, cash transfer programs have spread across the globe, often as conditional cash transfers (CCTs) made to poor families contingent on behaviors like school attendance and visits to health clinics. A new body of research is revealing that these programs can have a range of impacts not only on the families who receive payments but also on the broader communities where these beneficiaries live.

In his remarks, the Council Chairman, Engr. Valentine said the National Cash Transfer Office, is an arm of National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) under the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development which is responsible for the management of the Conditional Cash Transfers (CCT) to the poor and vulnerable groups in Nigeria under the Household Uplifting Programme (HUP), hence, beneficiaries were carefully selected to ensure only the indigent benefits from the scheme.

Valentine further said beneficiaries can be identified during payment through an electronic end-to-end payment system and the NCTO is the issuer of the CCT programme identity card containing bio-metrics of beneficiaries upon enrolment of the eligible households, noting that each beneficiary has a unique identifier encoded in barcode and will be employed for cashing out.  The Council Boss also said the only way such initiatives can be sustained is when the people get involved in governance by choosing the right leaders.

APC Candidate for Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency, Prince Lanre Sanusi (PLS) advise benefiaries on the need to ensure they arm themselves with their PVC’s because it is their basic obligations as citizens to decide who leads them, “we all love good life, we all want good governance, all I can assure you is that with your PVC you can ensure a responsive and responsible governance” PLS said.

Sanusi also used the event to reiterate his commitments to ensure he fights for programs and activities that will elevate the economic life and standards of living of his constituents at the green chamber. Asking constituents to vote overwhelmingly for the APC.

Olawestern, Amuwo Odofin Constituency 1, APC Candidate in his own submission congratulated the beneficiaries, stating that the cash transfer programs have been shown to have many benefits, including reducing poverty, increasing school enrollment, and improving nutrition and the only way to sustain such laudable scheme is to use the PVC wisely.

Push News 24 International reports however that, recent research on these programs has found they can also have spillovers onto non-beneficiaries—both positive and negative and anticipating potential negative spillovers during the design stage of cash transfer programs can help head them off before they happen.
