As of January 9, 2024, Osazuwa Agbonayinma, who uses the stage name Zuwa, has been shot and killed in the United States. Agbonayinma is an American-based Nigerian singer and member of the singing duo Roze, along with Eghosa Rodney Agbonayinma, also known as Row.
The report said the singer’s father and former Nigerian lawmaker Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma confirmed the tragic news to Channels TV Entertainment News that his son who also had a master’s degree in Architecture was killed by a shot in the back of the head.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) is proud to announce that Senior Warden Adam R. Gonzales of the William P. Clements Unit has been selected as the 2023 Warden of the Year.
Each year, regional directors nominate wardens who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, mentorship, vision, and statistical performance. The nominations undergo a rigorous review process by the Correctional Institutions Division (CID) deputy division directors and the CID director for final approval.
According to Lonnie “L.E.” Townsend, Region V director, Warden Gonzales consistently displayed an ambitious drive to incorporate new and innovative approaches in correctional facility operations.
“Under his leadership, the Clements Unit became the first unit in TDCJ to implement an Earned Incentive Housing Area. This unique housing area rewards inmates with outstanding behavior and provides motivation for others to strive for positive change,” Townsend said.
“Furthermore, Warden Gonzales encourages his staff to adapt successful programs from various facilities across the state and country to meet the specific needs of the incarcerated population at the Clements Unit. By combining traditional correctional tactics with modern understanding and theories, he aims to promote public safety, facilitate positive inmate behavior change, support inmate reintegration into society, and assist victims of crime.”
Executive Director Bryan Collier added, “Warden Gonzalez is one of many outstanding wardens serving TDCJ, and he is worthy of the honor he has received. His commitment to fostering a safe and innovative environment that promotes rehabilitation sets a standard for excellence within our agency.”
Gonzales is a 25-year veteran of the TDCJ. He began his career as a correctional officer and promoted through the ranks by serving the agency in the capacities of sergeant, lieutenant, captain, major, and assistant warden of several facilities. Gonzales received his Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice with honors from Ashworth University in 2017.
“I was truly honored and overwhelmed with emotions on being announced as the 2023 Warden of the Year,” Gonzalez said. “As I was presented the award, I could only think of the countless staff who made this acknowledgement happen. I was grateful to my lovely wife for supporting me in my career and the mentors who invested in me over the years.”
Three Nigerian Nationals Extradited from the United Kingdom and Spain to Face Fraud Charges

A recent publication by the US Department of Public Safety indicated that three Nigerians are currently undergoing investigation over fraud crimes.

The defendants are all charged with conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, as well as mail fraud and wire fraud. Neboh and Samuel were both extradited earlier this year. If convicted, Ikponmwosa, Abraham, and Ozor each face a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison per count. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

If successful, the coup would be the eighth in West and Central Africa since 2020. The latest one, in Niger, was in July. Military officers have also seized power in Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso and Chad, erasing democratic gains since the 1990s.

French forces were kicked out of Mali and Burkina Faso after coups in those countries, amid a wave of anti-French sentiment, and the coup leaders in Niger have also ordered them to leave.
China’s foreign ministry called for the situation in Gabon to be resolved peacefully and said the personal safety of Bongo, who visited China in April, should be ensured.

Push News 24 International reports that Mr. Adeniyi Sanni, an aide of distinguished Senator Solomon Adeola, has been murdered in cold blood by security agents suspected to be members of the Nigeria Police in Lagos State.
Mr Sanni who was reported killed under controversial circumstances in the early hours of Saturday was said to be an aide of Yayi for over 20 years.
It was reported that Sanni was stopped at a checking point in Beger area of Lagos, where he was said to have been questioned about documents of the vehicle he was driving, which was not made physically available by the deceased but he sought to make some calls to retrieve same.
His corpse was reportedly found with bullet wound in later hours along the popular Toyota bus-stop.
Media Adviser to Sen Olamilekan Yayi, Chief Kayode Odunaro, confirmed the tragic news in a statement.
“Information available to the bereaved Senator in Abuja indicates that Mr. Sanni was stopped at a checking point around Berger Area of Lagos on his way to his home at Isheri by security agents.
“He was asked to provide the documents of the car he was driving, which he did through his wife who sent all the documents to his phone WhatsApp.
“It was gathered that the wife called a while later and the late Mr. Sanni told him they were still checking the vehicle’s paper. His apprehensive wife later called on Mr. Sanni’s associates say he could no longer reach her husband on the phone, necessitating the mobilization of a search party.
“She was later called by passersby through the Next of Kin phone number on her husband’s driver’s license that the body of Mr. Sanni was dumped around Toyota Bus Stop in Oshodi with gunshot wound.
“Senator Adeola, who is involved in the ongoing ministerial screening at the Senate, is shocked beyond words and devastated by the news of this sad incident, as Mr. Sanni was his close aide for over two decades.
The Nigeria Police Force is investigating the killing.”
Further reports had it that, Sanni was involved in an altercation with his killers who were bent on arresting him and impound his vehicle to which the deceased resisted, with the confusion he was shot and died immediately, leading to his body been dump at the popular Toyota busstop so as to divert attention.
The police has not claimed responsibility or made any release over the incident but only said it will be investigate.
A source who works with Yayi who does not want his names mention said “An essential first step in addressing police brutality is to end the culture of impunity by prosecuting implicated police officers under the Anti-torture Act. The government must also take deliberate steps to implement reform recommendations and relevant laws, including the new and improved Police Act that repealed the previous colonial-era law”.

In a unanimous endorsement that signals the trust and confidence reposed in him by his counterparts, President Bola Tinubu emerged the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) at the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government on Sunday in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau.
President Tinubu, who is the latest entrant into the exclusive club of Heads of State in West Africa, enthusiastically accepted the honour, on behalf of Nigeria, with a solemn pledge to bear the responsibility of the office and run an inclusive administration of the regional organisation.
The Nigerian leader, however, warned that the threat to peace in the sub-region had reached an alarming proportion with terrorism and emerging pattern of military takeover that now demand urgent and concerted actions.
He said insecurity and creeping terrorism were stunting the progress and development of the region.
President Tinubu called for a collective action from member-states, pledging that under his leadership, frameworks would be harmonized to actualize the dreams of ECOWAS.
“On peace and security, the threat has reached an alarming level, and needs urgent actions in addressing the challenges. Indeed, without a peaceful environment, progress and development in the region will continue to remain elusive. In this regard, we must remain committed to the utilisation of all regional frameworks at our disposal to address the menace of insecurity,” he declared.
President Tinubu noted that ECOWAS had developed a security architecture, which he noted, “covers a wide range of areas that involved kinetic and non-kinetic operations, including preventive diplomacy. There is also the Regional Plan of Action on Fight against Terrorism 2020-2024 as well as the operationalization of the ECOWAS Standby Force on Fight Against Terrorism.
“I will ensure that we immediately harmonize these plans and mobilize resources as well as the political will to towards the actualisation of the initiatives. As terrorists do not respect boundaries, we must work collectively to have an effective regional counterterrorism measure,” the President further stated.
On his emergence as Chairman on his first participation at the summit, having just started out as the elected leader of Nigeria, President Tinubu stated that he was humbled and honoured by the trust to assume the leadership of the regional body, pledging his commitment to serve the interest of the community.
He said: “Indeed, I’m humbled and honored by this trust, and want to assure you of my unalloyed commitment to provide the necessary leadership with dedication to serve the interest of the community.”
To underscore his commitment towards regional integration, the Nigerian President declared that he would prioritize political stability, peace and security, regional economic integration and strengthening of the ECOWAS institutions, declaring that democracy and good governance remain the abiding cornerstone of peace and sustainable development. While decrying the emerging pattern of coup d’etat in West Africa where soldiers have toppled the popular mandate of the people through barrel of guns, President Tinubu charged ECOWAS to stand firm in defence of democracy.
“We must stand firm on democracy. There is no governance, freedom and rule of law without Democracy. We will not accept coup after coup in West Africa again. Democracy is very difficult to manage but it is the best form of government. There is no one here among us who did not campaign to be a leader. We didn’t give our soldiers resources, we didn’t invest in them, in their boots, in their training to violate the freedom of the people. To turn their guns against civil authorities is a violation of the principles upon which they were hired which is to defend the sovereignty of their nations. We must not sit in ECOWAS as toothless bulldogs,” the President warned.
On political stability, he said: “You will all agree with me that democracy and good governance are the cornerstones of peace and sustainable development of every society. I’m fully committed to deepening democracy and good governance in the region.
“We must strengthen our democratic institutions and ensure the respect for human rights and the rule of law. I will enhance engagements with the countries in transition to ensure their quick return to democratic rule.
The new ECOWAS Chairman called for improved private sector participation in the effort towards the economic development of Member States as well as their social integration.
“We would work collectively to pursue an inclusive economic integration, which will be significantly private sector driven, in order to unlock the vast economic potentials of our region. We would actively promote trade, investment, and business cooperation among Member States by addressing the barriers impeding intra-regional trade, as well as creating a conducive business environment.
“We must encourage economic partnerships to raise the level of trade and investments in our region, hence facilitating employment creation and sustainable development and prosperity for our citizens.
“To this end, we must look inward and work with our regional economic facilitation platforms such as the Federation of West of West Africa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FEWACCI) as well as ECOWAS Trade Organisation Network to attain our desired goals, “he said further.
President Tinubu assured the regional leaders of the immediate implementation of his vision for the body, declaring that:
“In furtherance of my vision for our region’s economic recovery and growth, Nigeria intends to convene an ECOWAS Extra Ordinary Summit on Trade and Investment in October 2023.
“The event will provide opportunity for Member States to showcase their potentials and encourage match-making, in order to evolve business cooperation among the various organized private sector within the region,” he added while calling for the strengthening of the institutions of the body.
“In the area of strengthening our Organisations Institutions and ensuring effective performance, we underscore the need for the conclusion of the on-going institutional reforms of the organization.
“Given that Community Levy remained the biggest source of generating funds to run our organization, we must ensure that our citizens being taxed must be positively impacted by the programmes and projects of ECOWAS. This is in line with the shift of ECOWAS slogan from “ECOWAS of State” to “ECOWAS of People,” the Nigerian President emphasised.
He appreciated the Authority of Heads of States and citizens of the Community for trusting him to lead the West African body.
President Tinubub said: “Your Excellencies, let me conclude by once again deeply appreciating the Authority of Heads of State and the citizens of the Community for your trust in me. Together, we can shape a brighter future of shared values of peace, democracy, and economic prosperity of our region.”
In his welcome address, the outgone ECOWAS Chairman and President of Republic of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Mokhtar Sissoco Embalo saluted his fellow leaders for sustaining the vision of the organisation despite the global economic headwinds and trouble spots within the region. He cited Mali, Burkina Faso and Republic of Guinea as countries where the constitutional order had been distorted while congratulating Nigeria and Sierra Leone for sustaining constitutional order through democratic process with the recent successful elections.

The management of Innoson Automobile Company has revoked the N3 million scholarship given to Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme due to her involvement in faking her Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) results.
This is contained in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday in Onitsha and signed by Mr Cornel Osigwe, Head of Corporate Communications at Innoson Group.
According to him, in recent days, we have been involved in the process of investigating allegations surrounding the 2023 UTME examination results of one of our scholarship recipients, Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme.
“It was reported initially that Miss Joy scored exceptionally high on the exam, a feat that led to her being awarded a scholarship by our company.“However, subsequent reports of discrepancies in her UTME score led us to seek clarification from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and to allow her to voice her stance, we engaged in direct dialogue with Miss Joy.
“Further to this, a committee set up by Gov. Charles Soludo carried out a thorough independent investigation into this matter,” he said.
Osigwe noted that the findings from the rigorous investigation have now confirmed that Miss Mmesoma did manipulate her UTME results.
“This conclusion is deeply disappointing and stands in direct contravention of the values we hold dear at Innoson Vehicles, particularly those that underscore our scholarship program.
“In line with these principles and in response to the confirmed findings, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw the scholarship awarded to Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme.“This action is a testament to our unyielding commitment to honesty, integrity, and merit-based recognition,” he said.
He acknowledged that the development was regrettable, and it has undoubtedly caused dismay among those who stood by Miss Mmesoma.
He assured that Innoson Vehicles remained steadfast in its mission to support deserving students, invest in the future of the education sector, and upheld the highest ethical standards.
President Bola Tinubu has dissolved the boards of all “Federal Government Parastatals, Agencies, Institutions, and Government-Owned Companies”, his office has announced.
“The dissolution does not, however, affect Boards, Commissions and Councils listed in the Third Schedule, Part 1, Section 153 (i) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the immediate dissolution of the Governing Boards of all Federal Government Parastatals, Agencies, Institutions, and Government-Owned Companies in the exercise of its Constitutional Powers and in the Public interest.
The dissolution does not, however, affect Boards, Commissions and Councils listed in the Third Schedule, Part 1, Section 153 (i) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
In view of this development and until such a time new boards are constituted, the Chief Executive Officers of the Parastatals, Agencies, Institutions, and Government-Owned Companies are directed to refer matters requiring the attention of their Boards to the President, through the Permanent Secretaries of their respective supervisory Ministries and Offices.
Permanent Secretaries are directed, also, to route such correspondences to Mr President through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Consequently, all Ministries, Departments and Agencies are to ensure compliance to the provision of this directive which took effect from Friday 16th June, 2023.
Permanent Secretaries are particularly directed to inform the Chief Executive Officers of the affected Agencies under the supervision of their respective Ministries/Offices for immediate compliance.
