Dr Romola Adeola is a Steinberg Fellow in International Migration Law and Policy at the Faculty of Law, McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She was formerly a legal researcher with the Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria in South Africa, where her areas of expertise were law and policy aspects of migration, refugee protection and international development law. She has worked as a consultant on these issues with African governments at the level of the state and also the African Union. She holds a Doctorate in Law from the University of Pretoria.
She is a Fellow in the Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Dr Adeola is also Senior Research Associate on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Refugee Law Initiative at the University of London, UK. She coordinates the Global Engagement Network on Internal Displacement in Africa (GENIDA).
A 26 Years old Nigerian Lady, Romola Adeola has set a record in being the youngest person to obtain a Doctor of Laws Degree (LLD) in the 30 years history of the centre for human rights at the University of Pretoria, Johannesburg, South Africa.
She is also the second youngest person to achieve this in the Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria since it’s establishment 107 years ago.
She distinguished herself by completing the LLD in under 3 years.
This record is in keeping with a pattern of excellence which Romola has maintained since her undergraduate years at Lagos State University (LASU) where she was awarded the Teslim Olawale Elias prize for the Best Student in International Law.
In 2012, she was selected as a DAAD Scholar to study for the LLM/Mphil degree in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa.
She graduated cum laude, earning two awards: the Keba M’Baye Award for the Overall Best Dissertation and the Victor Dankwa prize for the Best Performance in the module, Human Rights in Africa.

She’s the daughter of Dr. Segun A. Adeola of the Department of Biochemistry LASU.
