POLICE BRUTALITY : HOW YAYI LOSE AIDE TO THE COLD HANDS OF DEATH

Push News 24 International reports that Mr. Adeniyi Sanni, an aide of distinguished Senator Solomon Adeola, has been murdered in cold blood by security agents suspected to be members of the Nigeria Police in Lagos State.

Mr Sanni who was reported killed under controversial circumstances in the early hours of Saturday was said to be an aide of Yayi for over 20 years.

It was reported that Sanni was stopped at a checking point in Beger area of Lagos, where he was said to have been questioned about documents of the vehicle he was driving, which was not made physically available by the deceased but he sought to make some calls to retrieve same.

His corpse was reportedly found with bullet wound in later hours along the popular Toyota bus-stop.

Media Adviser to Sen Olamilekan Yayi, Chief Kayode Odunaro, confirmed the tragic news in a statement.

Information available to the bereaved Senator in Abuja indicates that Mr. Sanni was stopped at a checking point around Berger Area of Lagos on his way to his home at Isheri by security agents.

“He was asked to provide the documents of the car he was driving, which he did through his wife who sent all the documents to his phone WhatsApp.

“It was gathered that the wife called a while later and the late Mr. Sanni told him they were still checking the vehicle’s paper. His apprehensive wife later called on Mr. Sanni’s associates say he could no longer reach her husband on the phone, necessitating the mobilization of a search party.

“She was later called by passersby through the Next of Kin phone number on her husband’s driver’s license that the body of Mr. Sanni was dumped around Toyota Bus Stop in Oshodi with gunshot wound.

“Senator Adeola, who is involved in the ongoing ministerial screening at the Senate, is shocked beyond words and devastated by the news of this sad incident, as Mr. Sanni was his close aide for over two decades.

The Nigeria Police Force is investigating the killing.”

Further reports had it that, Sanni was involved in an altercation with his killers who were bent on arresting him and impound his vehicle to which the deceased resisted, with the confusion he was shot and died immediately, leading to his body been dump at the popular Toyota busstop so as to divert attention.

The police has not claimed responsibility or made any release over the incident but only said it will be investigate.

A source who works with Yayi who does not want his names mention said “An essential first step in addressing police brutality is to end the culture of impunity by prosecuting implicated police officers under the Anti-torture Act. The government must also take deliberate steps to implement reform recommendations and relevant laws, including the new and improved Police Act that repealed the previous colonial-era law”.
