AWORI DAY FESTIVAL 2022: SANUSI PLEDGES SUPPORT, MOVES FOR A BILL ON CULTURAL RENAISSANCE
The All Progressive Congress (APC), House of Representatives Candidate in Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency, Prince Lanre A. Sanusi (PLS) has promised to actively participate and support the Awori Advisory Council in ensuring the success of the annual Awori Day celebration which is designed to showcase the cultural heritage of Awori land.
Sanusi, an Awori born Prince made the remarks at the first annual Awori Day celebration 2022 organised by Awori Welfare Association of Nigeria (AWAN) on the 11th of November at the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos.
He stated that he endorsed the cultural event because it aligns with his legislative commitments to promoting the cultural heritage of his land of birth.
Sanusi added that the by his legislative blueprint he is interested in elevating the status of Lagos State cultural heritage through the sponsor of a Cultural Renaissance Bill, revealing that there are plans to make the Awori Day festival a top-notch event that will be recognised on all Awori lands in Nigeria and globally, Push News 24 International reports
According to the US trained Financial Advisor, the Cultural Renaissance Bill will promote the rediscovery of contemporary cultural philosophy, literature and arts. Some of the greatest thinkers, authors, statesmen, scientists and artists from Lagos State will be acknowledged and honoured, while global exchanges will open up new lands and cultures to Lagos indigenous commercial communities.
Speaking further, PLS said “The Renaissance Bill will bridge the gap between the Middle Ages and modern-day civilization. It will also cultivate a new change in historical records, arts, knowledge, and cultural practices. It will change the way the residents and indigenous people relates, as well as the enable new discoveries in tourism, travel, invention, and style”
PLS said the Awori Day Celebration will enhance the status of Awori sons and daughters within Nigeria and those in the diaspora and will also reaffirm the prominent roles played by the Aworis in nation-building across all facets of life.
Also speaking during the briefing, Prince Adetunji Fadina, the Chairman, Awori Day Central Working Committee, said the Awori Day Cultural Festival 2022 is organised to showcase to the world the rich culture and tourism products of the Awori people as part of their contributions to the tourism development of Lagos State.
Michael Olawale-Cole, Chairman of the Awori Day Advisory Council, on his part, said that the annual Festival would bring the Awori people the opportunity to demonstrate the culture of the Aworis in Lagos and Ogun States.
He affirmed that the Awori descendants have a lot of culture from different parts of Lagos, Ogun and in the Diaspora to exhibit to the world.
Sanusi thanked the organizers of the Awori Day 2022, and also appreciated Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and the State Tourism Ministry for their support in making the day a success.
