EASTER: PLS GREETS AMUWO ODOFIN CHRISTIANS, CALLS FOR PRAYERS FOR NIGERIA

PUSH NEWS 24 INTERNATIONAL: April 7th, 2023

EASTER: PLS GREETS AMUWO ODOFIN CHRISTIANS, CALLS FOR PRAYERS FOR NIGERIA

APC Chieftain and House of Representative Candidate of the All Progressives Congress Candidate (APC), Prince Lanre Sanusi (PLS) has congratulated Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency Christians across Nigeria and the world on the successful completion of this year’s 2023 Lent period and the subsequent Good Friday and Easter celebrations which symbolize the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

In a message from his Media Office in FESTAC, Sanusi urged the indigenous people Christians and residents of Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency to pray for peace, security, sustainable development, and unity in the country as well as among the citizens.

The Awori born Prince urged Christians to return to the teachings of Jesus Christ who as ‘the reason for the season’ represents religious tolerance, peaceful co-existence, good faith, truth, demonstration of the fear of and belief in God, empathy for the less privileged, and patriotism to one’s country.

“It is not just a mere coincidence that while the Lent fasting was on, the Muslim Ramadan also commenced and this translates to a very substantial percentage of the national population fasting in the past two weeks. This is a design by Almighty God to teach us the lesson that no matter how we worship Him, whatever language we adopt in worshipping Him, or what name we call Him, we are all creations of one God.

“Therefore, we should all live, work and aspire together as brothers and sisters in the interest of our dear country, demonstrate the fear of God in all we do, and develop our country for the benefit of all. We should stop allowing religion, ethnicity, or difference in language to divide us. It is time we all bound together to salvage our country and restore her lost glory” Sanusi said

“This Easter period which also coincides with the ongoing Ramadan fasting should be used by Nigerians to pray for their country, to rededicate ourselves to the promotion of national interest above personal interest, ponder about the challenges facing the country, and for each individual to take a vow to be part of the solution to the problems.

“It is my prayer that Almighty God will intervene and heal our country in all areas while also giving us victory over those misguided elements who are waging wars against the country. May the protection of God be on all members of the security agencies who are on the frontlines fighting to defend our country. I wish all our Christian brothers and sisters a happy celebration of Good Friday and Easter”, Sanusi stated.

AMUWO ODOFIN: HOST COMMUNITIES / TANK FARM OWNERS CLASH, SANWO-OLU TO REGENERATE COMMUNITIES

PUSH NEWS 24 INTERNATIONAL : April 1st, 2023

AMUWO ODOFIN: HOST COMMUNITIES/TANK FARM OWNERS CLASH, SANWO-OLU TO REGENERATE COMMUNITIES

Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said that the lasting solution to the lingering disagreement between owners of petroleum tank farms in Ijegun-Egba, Amuwo Odofin and the host community is for the Federal Government’s regulatory agencies to co-operate with the state’s agencies in addressing environmental degradation in the area.

He added that the tank farm owners and oil tanker drivers must subscribe to operational regulations that limit the loading of tankers beyond their weight capacities.

Sanwo-Olu said the agitation by members of the host-community for the relocation of the tank farms might be far from being over if stakeholders fail to come to the discussion table and work collaboratively.

The governor spoke yesterday at the State House, Marina, when he received in audience members of the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Relocation of Tank Farms constituted by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, with the mandate to investigate the matter and give recommendations.

Sanwo-Olu said the regeneration of Ijegun-Egba was as important to the community residents as smooth transportation of petroleum products was important to the tank farm owners.

He said the nation could not afford to allow the host community’s agitation to hinder the operations of the tank farms, which he said, supply 45 per cent of petroleum products consumed in the country.

The governor disclosed that the state government had come up with a new design for the regeneration of the area, but added that the efforts could not be rolled out because federal stakeholders had not agreed with the regeneration plan.

He said the stakeholders must fashion out ways to achieve efficient enforcement of the operational guidelines for oil tankers plying the area, pointing out that any intervention initiated without keeping the oil tankers within the confines of approved haulage capacity would yield no result.

The governor, who described the committee’s mission as “important national assignment,” lauded Gbajabiamila for prioritising the issue after the motion calling for assessment of the tank farms’ activities was moved in the House by member representing Amuwo-Odofin, Oghere Egoh.

INEC DEFENDS OMISSION OF LABOUR PARTY’S LOGO ON BALLOT PAPERS IN LAGOS

PUSH NEWS 24 INTERNATIONAL: February 25th, 2023

AMUWO ODOFIN : INEC Defends Omission Of Labour Party’s Logo On Ballot Papers In Lagos

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has defended the omission of the Labour Party’s logo on ballot papers in Lagos State.

Push News 24 International reported on Thursday that the Lagos State Chapter of the Labour Party (LP) had slammed INEC for allegedly omitting the party’s logo on ballot papers for the Senatorial and House of Representatives elections billed for Saturday.

The State LP Chairperson, Dayo Ekong, made this known on Thursday during a news conference in Ikeja, calling on INEC to reschedule the election until the party’s candidates were included on the ballots.

She said: “This malicious error was found out this morning in Lagos, by me and my team of executive members during the routine inspection of election materials.

“It was at inspection that it was discovered that the Labour Party was not listed for the election for Senate in and House of Representatives in Lagos State. This is unacceptable and a wicked way of disenfranchising Lagos electorates.

“It is unimaginable that for the elections slated for Saturday, Feb. 25, Lagos electorate will only vote for the Labour Party Presidential Candidate as INEC made no provision for the election of Party’s Senate and House of Representatives Candidates.

However, Push News 24 international understands that the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, while reacting to the allegation, told pressmen late Friday at the INEC media briefing in Abuja that “The commission has a record of obedience to court orders.”

He explained that the Labour Party had in a day served on the commission 70 processes on the nomination of candidates and in Lagos, on Federal Constituencies alone.

However, INEC accepted 13 out of 24 candidates for the nomination of federal constituencies in the state.

Yakubu, however, said the commission’s legal team has been tasked to look into the court order from the party and respond appropriately.

He said “So, we have already tasked our legal office to look at all the judgments we have been receiving and they have been coming virtually every day.

The party you are talking about in one day alone served on INEC 70 processes on the nomination of candidates and in Lagos, on Federal Constituencies alone, we accepted the nomination of candidates for 13 out of 24 Federal Constituencies from that party by court order. So, we will look at the court order and respond accordingly.”

2023 : LABOUR PARTY NOT LISTED FOR REPS AND SENATE IN LAGOS STATE – LP CHAIR, EKONG

PUSH NEWS 24 INTERNATIONAL : February 24th, 2023

The Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State on Thursday condemned INEC for omitting the party’s logo from the Federal House of Representatives ballot papers ahead of Saturday’s general elections.

The Media reports that INEC took delivery of sensitive materials for the presidential and national assembly elections scheduled for Saturday on Wednesday.

At a news conference in Ikeja, Lagos State LP Chairperson Pastor Dayo Ekong called on INEC to reschedule the election until the party’s candidates were included on the ballots.

According to her, as Nigerians prepare to go to the polls on Saturday to elect a new president and members of the Senate and House of Representatives, the LP is decrying the flagrant exclusion of the candidates of the Labour Party National Assembly from the ballot papers.

Ekong called out INEC to either correct what she described as an anomaly or reschedule the National Assembly elections.

“This malicious “error” was found out this morning in Lagos by me and my team of executive members during the routine inspection of election materials.

“It was at the time of inspection that it was discovered that the Labour Party was not listed for the election for the Senate and House of Representatives in Lagos State. This is unacceptable and a wicked way of disenfranchising Lagos electorates.

“It is unimaginable that for the elections slated for Saturday, Feb. 25, the Lagos electorate will only vote for the Labour Party presidential candidate as INEC made no provision for the election of the party’s Senate and House of Representatives candidates

“We cannot accept this as we do not believe that INEC made a mistake but rather, a deliberate, malicious and intentional act by INEC at disenfranchising our Supporters from exercising their civic rights which is unacceptable,” Ekong said.

She added that further checks on the INEC website revealed that the list of names of the members of the Lagos Labour Party National Assembly was not uploaded “even as the list and court orders for same were duly submitted to INEC and acknowledged.”

“You will all recall how we have severally pointed out the bias displayed by the current INEC REC in Lagos State towards our Party and his increasing attacks on our leaders that have constantly pointed out these biases in the past and current onslaught on our Party.

“Is this the result of the culmination of those attacks?

“We call on all stakeholders, foreign observers, lovers of democracy, and the international community to quickly wade in and call INEC to do the needful,” Ekong said.

NAN reports that the event was attended by the party’s governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, other candidates, and state executive committee members..
