NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL IS NON-PARTISAN AND NON-POLITICAL – A CONCERN CITIZEN CALL-OUT LAGOS STATE CHAIRMAN

PUSH NEWS 24 INTERNATIONAL: May 14, 2022

NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL IS NON-PARTISAN AND NON-POLITICAL – A CONCERN CITIZEN CALL-OUT LAGOS STATE CHAIRMAN

A concern citizen and youth re-orientation advocate, Prince Olamilekan Ojo Martins (Mnipr) has called out the Lagos State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lekan Biliamin Oba over what he described as the continuous violation of his oath of office in ensuring that the NYCN under his leadership remains apolitical and non-partisan.

The public affairs analyst in a recent viral video stated that the Lagos State Chairman has been seen regularly and publicly canvassing and campaigning for aspirants of one of the political parties (evidence witheld) and further attending their events and accepting responsibilities to the effect, which in the real sense have created mixed reactions from members of the public and other youths stakeholders.

“The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) which was established in 1964 is charged with policy formulation and implementation on issues bordering on youth development in Nigeria and as the umbrella body and the mouthpiece of the Nigerian Youth it is responsible for protecting the diverse interest of its members which cut across tribes, faith, creed and political inclinations, and as such its uncalled for, for the President or any of the Chapter Chairmen to throw caution to the wind by hob-nobbing with a particular political party to the detriment of other members affiliations” Martins said.

He further stated that several chapters have been indulging in similar practices which is against the spirit and letters of the legal recognition given to the youth body in 1990.

“While there is no express clause that prevents the leadership of the NYCN at all levels from directly and personally expressing their political preferences the moral burden of leadership and the extant laws recognizing the NYCN as apolitical behooves caution on the youth body”

According to the erstwhile youth leader, the NYCN which is also affiliated to the world Assembly of Youth, Pan-African Youth Union in its affiliation charters accepted to the creed to remain apolitical, hence, those at the leadership level of the youth body despite possessing individual rights to participate in political activities such rights become subjective to the larger interest of the youth body.

“As the leader you cannot completely separate yourself and personal activities from the group you lead as your personae and office draws inferences from your position, hence, the conflict”

“Personally, I have made efforts to discuss the dangers of tilting against the tide with the concerned but it was taken as a stroll-in-the-park and that is why I am calling on the President of the NYCN, Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo and the supervisory body, the Ministry for Youths and Sports development to quickly order-into-line activities of the leadership of the Chapters so as to avoid a derail from the expected practices and standards of the NYCN” he added.

While acknowledging over the years the various roles of the NYCN in providing a chart-way for the development, emancipation and socio-political advancement of the youths in Nigeria, Prince Ojo Martins advise that youths can only make meaningful change to the society if they continuously remain guided and follow the rules of engagements to the latter.

The Public Relations practitioner further stressed that a situation where the NYCN logo adorns political party poster or the issuance of public statements to such extent will only relegate the youth body as a portfolio of political desperados who will on a long run lower the value standards of the body.

NYCN is expected to work seamlessly with any government in power regardless of the political affiliations thereby ensuring active mobilization of the youth for social and development activities at all levels of government; and the collective matrimony is to secure for the youths befitting channels of resounding voices that is notable across the Country” he said.

LAHA 2023: EQUITY, JUSTICE, FAIRNESS IMPERATIVE FOR IKORODU DIVISION UNITY – BEBENLO

PUSH NEWS 24 INTERNATIONAL: April 30TH, 2022

LAHA 2023 : Equity, justice, fairness imperative for Ikorodu’s unity — Bebenlo

Prince Olamilekan Ojo Martins, a public affairs commentator and leadership advocate revisits the current succession controversy in Constituency 1 in Ikorodu Division ahead of 2023 and questions a clandestine arrangement by some unforeseen socio-political cabals that excludes the good people of Ikorodu West LCDA.

I spoke on the roles that leaders must play to engender unity in my weekly Instagram-live entitled: “Nigeria, Some Defining Issues for the Future.’’. In my live broadcast I stated emphatically that equity, justice, and fairness for all segments of society are imperative in the pursuit of unity in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State.

As a former LGA Youth Leader of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) I am of the conviction that any fear or allegation of marginalization or discrimination on account of tribe, residency, religion, ethnicity or political affiliations must not be overlooked by any community as its long term negative effects are better imagined.

“Political and traditional leaders in Ikorodu Division must do the difficult work of educating their publics about the need to live together and ensure political positions and patronage are circled amongst the three entities that makes up Constituency 1 and 2, in this case for Constituency 1 are Ikorodu West, Ikorodu North and Ikorodu Central”. In constituency 2 brothers are pitching against one another, neighbors against neighbors …so the story goes.

“It is the elites, leaders that will do the onerous job of ensuring unity in our communities.”

In my previous writeup with the title, “The Propaganda Plights of LCDAs in Lagos State”, I tried to show how Greater Ikorodu West LCDA made up of Ipakodo, Owutu, Agric amongst others have been reduced to the political weeping child of Ikorodu Division. This is due to the worst form of political marginalization foisted on the people before, during and after the creation of LCDAs in Lagos State.

Expectedly, the writeup attracted mixed reactions. In that writeup, many pertinent questions were raised challenging proponents of centralization in Ikorodu Central to provide evidence as to when and who sat together to draw the agreement on such arrangements (written or unwritten).

While many hailed the logicality of the argument, some people with opposing views made feeble attempts to counter the argument even as they were lacking in facts and failed woefully to provide answers to the basic questions raised. Their best attempt was to say that both Ikorodu West and Ikorodu North were merely created from Ikorodu Central and they have to call the shorts and that it has come to stay! We shall return to that later.

In this my second intervention, I basically want to present further historical evidence to buttress the point that, by reason of equity, justice and fairness, Ikorodu West LCDA, whether by “cultural zone” or old divisional structure (or even affirmation), should be supported to produce the next Lagos State House of Assembly Member for Ikorodu Constituency 1. Power can still shift to Ikorodu North LCDA afterwards. By so doing, equity is still serve.

Activities of the past years has only revealed how some stakeholders have been neglected in Ikorodu Constituency I. which is made up of Ikorodu Central, Ikorodu North and Ikorodu West)

House of Assembly Ikorodu Constituency I Short history 1999-Till Date

1999-2003.. Hon. Ola Animashaun (Ikorodu LG).

2003- 2007.. Hon. Sunmi Odesanya ( Ikorodu Central).

2007- 2011. Hon. SOB AGUNBIADE ( Ikorodu Central)

20011- 2015. Hon. SOB AGUNBIADE ( Ikorodu Central)

2015- 2019. Hon. SOB AGUNBIADE ( Ikorodu Central)

2019- 2023. Hon. SOB AGUNBIADE ( Ikorodu Central)

Ikorodu North and Ikorodu West we have waited enough…

We call on Our party Leaders and Traditional Leaders to speak out. If Ikorodu Constituency 2 can tinker with rotation , Ikorodu Constituency I should also lead by example.

It’s time for Rotation 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️……..

The unique and constitutional position of the trio is longed recognized by the laws of Lagos State as equal entities but the injustice vehemently experienced as shown in the case of the Lagos State House of Assemble leaves so much to be desired. We live in a complex web of multi-layered social, cultural, economic and political synergies playing out in Ikorodu and that is most unfortunate to the LCDAs.

Despite the scale of the challenges facing us, unravelling this web of commonality as proposed by enthusiasts of disintegration and some greedy politicians is a cure that is worse than the disease.

This is why we must understand that even though managing diversity can be politically and administratively onerous, diversity itself is an economic strength and harnessing it properly is hugely rewarding, if properly harnessed, our diversity could ensure lasting prosperity for all.

The true wealth of nations in the 21st century is human capital, societies that set out to attract and retain the most diverse pool of skilled human resources are ordained to prevail in the race for prosperity.

It is a matter of interest that the most prosperous economies in the world are typically diverse. With diversity comes a broad range of cultural, philosophical and intellectual approaches for solving problems; innovation can only flourish in this kind of setting. Ikorodu West indeed has qualified and experienced professionals who can occupy any post.

This is why the apex leadership in Ikorodu Division must understand that even though managing diversity can be politically and administratively onerous, diversity itself is an economic strength and harnessing it properly is hugely rewarding. Let’s give Ikorodu West LCDA the opportunity to ensure a refreshing legislative agenda.

LAHA 2023: ALOGBA, HARPS ON FRESH PERSPECTIVES FOR IKORODU CONSTITUENCY 1

PUSH NEWS 24 INTERNATIONAL: April 22nd, 2023

2023: ALOGBA, ASSEMBLY ASPIRANT HARPS ON FRESH PERSPECTIVES FOR IKORODU CONSTITUENCY 1

The socio-political public/private spheres of Ikorodu Division are awash with visible and hidden intimations of generational leadership gradual failings; facts and realities that bear no esoteric hue and that do not require the understanding and interpretation of experts and professionals of various callings. The failures of our time may translate into the complete failed status of the nation state if we fail to do the needful.

Coming from the above background, Hon Babawale Bisiriyu Alogba who is an aspirant in the 2023 Lagos State House of Assembly, Ikorodu Constituency 1, has harped on the need for a fresh perspective as the All Progressive Congress (APC) prepares for its primaries.

Alogba made these remarks during his speech at the consultative meeting held with stakeholders and some delegates of Ikorodu Constituency 1.

“I am humbled by this rare show of love and genuine support for me. With what I am seeing here today, I can boldly say Ikorodu is, indeed, ready to usher in the change and a fresh perspective that will transform the constituency. This warm welcome means I have been accepted and commissioned to proceed”.

“With all humility, I want to assure you that I am motivated and ready for the challenges ahead. I want to promise that by God’s grace and with your support, I will provide a fresh platform for effective and responsive legislation. “I am ready to go the extra mile to ensure your rights are protected and by extension, all Lagosian being my larger constituency”

My priority is to be your voice and creating the enabling opportunities and environment for the good people of Ikorodu Constituency to reap the dividends of democracy in Lagos and Nigeria at large.” Alogba promised.

Hon Babawale also said “Political activities in Nigerian context have been relegated to election periods which unfortunately happens in every 4-year, after expiration of a tenure in a democracy. Imperatively so, for re-assessment of performances Ikorodu Constituency 1 is not an exception and in order to address this melee there is need for fusion of fresh ideas and perspectives to legislative representation in 2023.”

The banker turned politician said he will establish a nexus between all stakeholders in the community thereby promoting Good Governance and Sustainable National/State Development through motions relevant to current realities.

“I am here to sensitize us ahead of time, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos State as a party is built on providing dividends of democracy to the people and Ikorodu Constituency 1 must not be schemed out, Ikorodu needs a representative without any baggage”

It is sacrosanct to mention or perhaps reiterate the obvious that keeping constant touch with the constituents begot preferential attachment in the sub-consciousness of the people especially when it involves legislative activities that bring succor to hard-times and affecting lives positively”

Push News 24 International can confirm that Alogba’s fresh perspectives strategy as a legislator is premised on 8 major characteristics. It is participatory, consensus oriented, accountable, transparent, responsive, effective and efficient, equitable and inclusive, and follows the rule of law. The Ikorodu born believes good governance is responsive to the present and future needs of any community, exercises prudence in policy-setting and decision-making, and in the context in which the best interests of all citizens and critical stakeholders are taken into account.
