OVERSIGHT: IKORODU WEST COUNCILLORS EMBARKS ON INSPECTION EXERCISE OF FUNDED PROJECTS; COMMENDS CHAIRMAN ON PROJECT EXECUTION

In the quest for nation building in a democratic set up like Nigeria, the exercise of effective legislative oversight function remains crucial; In a bid to monitor the on-going infrastructural projects , the Ikorodu West LCDA Councillors October 2021 embarked on an inspection tour of Ward A and B in the Local Council Development Area to have a first hand knowledge on how funds are expended.

The Deputy Leader of the House who is also the Councillor of Ward B, Hon. Daisi Batife, who led a 6-Man delegate made up of Hon Abimbola Rashidat Adelaja (Ward C), Hon Tejumaye Adeyanju (Ward D), Hon Abimbola Olwomilowomi (Ward E), the Clerk of the House and Council Engineer on the inspection, noted that the tour is aimed at checking the excesses of the Council in terms of infrastructural developments, health care provision, road networks, drainages, education and also; to get a the impulse of the people who are direct beneficiaries of the project.

Amongst ongoing projects visited includes the rehabilitation work at Olayinka Jimbo Street, Ipakodo, Ebute-Ikorodu, the project is handled by HAS TECHNOLOGIES, Lagos and expected to be completed in Eight weeks under the supervision of the Works and Housing Department of the Council. Other projects includes the Construction of one side Open Drainage work in front of Majidun Health centre at Akinreti Street,Majidun/Ogolonto.

Hon. Batife while commending the Chairman on projects visited so far, said to Push News International “we have seen the good job they have put in place, we have examined the books and seen the list of ongoing projects which is part of the reason we are here”.

What we have seen in the Council so far is commendable and we encourage him to do more so the electorates can feel the impact of quality representation in their various Wards”.

The Deputy Leader further advise the council engineers to always be on ground to monitor the projects.

The Chief Whip, Hon. Abimbola Adelaja on her own part while talking about the importance of the oversight informed the media that “It’s purpose is to provide a statutory check on the executive authority, enhancing accountability, and ensuring that government policies and budgets are implemented in an effective, efficient, transparent and accountable manner.”

A satisfied Adelaja further stated that legislative oversight will expose corruption, inefficiency, or waste in the execution or administration of laws within its legislative competence.

The way the Council Chairman have utilized tax payers money in carrying out these projects is very commendable and we pray he does not relent in the good works

The Chairman have done well, this shows that tax payers money are been used and expended on projects that will benefit the general public” I commend the Chairman for what he is doing within his shirt days in office. Adelaja added.
