OMICRON BAN : ANOTHER SINISTER MOVE TO RECOLONISE AFRICA – DIASPORANS REACT

PUSH NEWS 24 INTERNATIONAL : December 8th, 2021

OMICRON BAN : ANOTHER SINISTER MOVE BY THE UK TO RECOLONISE AFRICA – DIASPORANS REACT

Nigeria is the latest African country to join the UK’s travel red list – along with South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Angola, Mozambique, Malawi and Zambia.

In a swift reaction Nigerians-in-Diaspora have also learned their voices to the call for the UK reconsider her position. The Convener of Nigeria Diaspora Project Committee (NDPC), Prince Olalekan Ojo Martins has criticized a travel ban imposed on the West African nation by the British government amid fears about the new omicron variant as “punitive, indefensible and discriminatory aimed at sinisterly tending towards recolonisation of Africans”

U.K. Health Secretary Sajid Javid on Saturday added Nigeria to the U.K.’s travel “red list,” which means that arrivals from there will be banned except for U.K. and Irish residents. He said there was a “significant number” of omicron cases linked to travel with Nigeria, with 27 cases recorded in England.

The NDPC Visionary stressed that the move by the UK is very “unfortunate” and “unfair” towards developing countries particularly when nations are expected to pull resources and strength to fight the new wave.

Push News 24 International gathered that the only people allowed to enter the UK from these countries are UK or Irish nationals, or UK residents.

Arrivals from red-list countries are required to enter hotel quarantine – at their own expense – and isolate for 10 days. These countries have been targeted because the Omicron variant was first identified in southern Africa.

But the fact all of the nations currently on the red list are African has been described as “wicked and unfair”.

But Nigerian authorities say they have not reported any new omicron cases in the country since announcing on Dec. 1 that they had detected three cases in travelers who arrived from South Africa.

According to Aare Ismail Adetunji who is based in Washington DC stressed that the British travel ban has no sciencetific backing and is very “unjust, unfair, punitive, indefensible and discriminatory,” .

Dr. Asekun, a lawyer based in Texas said

“We continue to witness the humanising and unyielding actions/inactions of the actors who partook in the making of modern Nigeria but still holding the strings of progress”,

Olayiwola Isiaka in his own submission to Push News 24 International that ” we will continue to emphasize the scandals and clandestine colonial operations in our mainstream narratives.”

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, is not considering imposing travel bans from any country now, Minister of Health Osagie Ehanire told The Press. Instead, it is focusing on ramping up surveillance and testing as it aims to “balance saving lives and saving livelihoods.”

DOWEN COLLEGE ASSAULT : LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT CULPABLE – DIASPORANS

PUSH NEWS 24 INTERNATIONAL : December, 8th, 2021

DOWEN COLLEGE ASSAULT : LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT CULPABLE – DIASPORANS

The alarming trends of bullying and attacks on other students by student-cultists in private schools in recent times have led to the maiming and in most cases death of several innocent students in the hands of their fellow students, teachers or school guards who raped, sexually abused and inflicted other sundry bestialities on students.

Nigerians-in-Diaspora under the eagis of Nigeria Diasporans Project Committee (NDPC), a non governmental pressure group promoting the good image of Nigerians abroad have called out the Lagos State Government as been negligent in the effective monitoring and inspections of A- list private schools due to their “assumed” status.

Stating their position in a release on Tuesday over the death of DOWEN College student, the Team Lead of NDPC, Prince Olalekan Ojo Martins says

“NDPC is aware of reports of the death of a Dowen College pupil in Lagos State by fellow school mates allegedly in a cult related manner”

“No child should go through what children are going through now in Nigeria. Education should not be a matter of life and death for anyone. Nigeria and Lagos State is failing the children once again in a horrifying manner”

The State apparatus via the Ministry of Education have erred in their duties to effectively monitor the so-called A-list schools which have now become danger zones”

NDPC condemns in the strongest possible terms any attack or bullying in our schools and calls for the immediate sanctioning of both the pupils, parents of the suspects, school authorities and government officials who were negligent.”

“The American Academy of Paediatrics defines a ‘healthful school environment’ as one that protects students and staff against immediate injury or disease and promotes prevention activities and attitudes against known risk factors that might lead to future disease , disability or death”.

Push News 24 International reports that following the death of Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, a 12-year-old student of Dowen College, a high flyer private school in Lekki, Lagos, stakeholders, including parents, students and the government have raised concern over the safety and well-being of students in the care of school owners and management of private schools.

They, however, described the death of the student as a result of bullying and torture in the hands of some student-cultists as a ‘threat to the collective peace and safety of innocent students in some schools.

The deceased student, Sylvester Oromoni Jnr allegedly died from internal injuries inflicted on him by some student-cultists, who were said to have tortured and beaten him for refusing to join their cult group.

The PRO of the group, Engr. Aina Badejo in her own submission said “NDPC is deeply concerned about these reported acts of violence in schools which are a violation of children’s rights. Children should feel safe at home and at school at all times – and parents should not need to worry for the safety of their children when they send them off to school.”

A healthy school environment (physical, biological and socio-cultural) serves as a major determinant of health and greatly influences the individual’s level of intellectual growth and development, where a State apparatus fails to play her roles, then some persons need to be sanctioned” Badejo added.

The chattered PR Practitioner finally advise Lagos State government to ensure a Safeful School Environment and make all the conscious efforts to organized, plan and execute actions that will ensure the safety and healthy living conditions for all members of the school community.

OPINION : TIME-TESTED RULES FOR EFFECTIVE PARENTING FOR NIGERIANS

PUSH NEWS 24 INTERNATIONAL : November 8th, 2021

Parenting is as rewarding as it is challenging. Our children can bring great joy as we guide them on the path to becoming wonderful young adults. However there was no instruction booklet provided for each child. It can be frustrating, overwhelming and hard work as we navigate the obstacles faced by today’s children.

Our children are our heritage and we are all responsible for what they become as parents. Raising them to be God-fearing and good citizen is a shared responsibility regardless of any situation we find ourselves.Raising kids is one of the toughest and most fulfilling jobs in the world — and the one for which you might feel the least prepared.

Here are child-rearing tips that can help you feel more fulfilled as a parent.

  1. Boosting Your Child’s Self-Esteem

Kids start developing their sense of self as babies when they see themselves through their parents’ eyes. Your tone of voice, your body language, and your every expression are absorbed by your kids. Your words and actions as a parent affect their developing self-esteem more than anything else.

Praising accomplishments, however small, will make them feel proud; letting kids do things independently will make them feel capable and strong. By contrast, belittling comments or comparing a child unfavorably with another will make kids feel worthless.

Avoid making loaded statements or using words as weapons. Comments like “What a stupid thing to do!” or “You act more like a baby than your little brother!” cause damage just as physical blows do.

Choose your words carefully and be compassionate. Let your kids know that everyone makes mistakes and that you still love them, even when you don’t love their behavior.

  1. Catch Kids Being Good

Have you ever stopped to think about how many times you react negatively to your kids in a given day? You may find yourself criticizing far more often than complimenting. How would you feel about a boss who treated you with that much negative guidance, even if it was well intentioned?

The more effective approach is to catch kids doing something right: “You made your bed without being asked — that’s terrific!” or “I was watching you play with your sister and you were very patient.” These statements will do more to encourage good behavior over the long run than repeated scoldings.

Make a point of finding something to praise every day. Be generous with rewards — your love, hugs, and compliments can work wonders and are often reward enough. Soon you will find you are “growing” more of the behavior you would like to see.

  1. Set Limits and Be Consistent With Your Discipline

Discipline is necessary in every household. The goal of discipline is to help kids choose acceptable behaviors and learn self-control. They may test the limits you establish for them, but they need those limits to grow into responsible adults.

Establishing house rules helps kids understand your expectations and develop self-control. Some rules might include: no TV until homework is done, and no hitting, name-calling, or hurtful teasing allowed.

You might want to have a system in place: one warning, followed by consequences such as a “time out” or loss of privileges. A common mistake parents make is failure to follow through with the consequences. You can’t discipline kids for talking back one day and ignore it the next. Being consistent teaches what you expect.

  1. Make Time for Your Kids

It’s often difficult for parents and kids to get together for a family meal, let alone spend quality time together. But there is probably nothing kids would like more. Get up 10 minutes earlier in the morning so you can eat breakfast with your child or leave the dishes in the sink and take a walk after dinner. Kids who aren’t getting the attention they want from their parents often act out or misbehave because they’re sure to be noticed that way.

Many parents find it rewarding to schedule together time with their kids. Create a “special night” each week to be together and let your kids help decide how to spend the time. Look for other ways to connect — put a note or something special in your kid’s lunchbox.

Adolescents seem to need less undivided attention from their parents than younger kids. Because there are fewer windows of opportunity for parents and teens to get together, parents should do their best to be available when their teen does express a desire to talk or participate in family activities. Attending concerts, games, and other events with your teen communicates caring and lets you get to know more about your child and his or her friends in important ways.

Don’t feel guilty if you’re a working parent. It is the many little things you do — making popcorn, playing cards, window shopping — that kids will remember.

  1. Be a Good Role Model

Young kids learn a lot about how to act by watching their parents. The younger they are, the more cues they take from you. Before you lash out or blow your top in front of your child, think about this: Is that how you want your child to behave when angry? Be aware that you’re constantly being watched by your kids. Studies have shown that children who hit usually have a role model for aggression at home.

Model the traits you wish to see in your kids: respect, friendliness, honesty, kindness, tolerance. Exhibit unselfish behavior. Do things for other people without expecting a reward. Express thanks and offer compliments. Above all, treat your kids the way you expect other people to treat you.

  1. Make Communication a Priority

You can’t expect kids to do everything simply because you, as a parent, “say so.” They want and deserve explanations as much as adults do. If we don’t take time to explain, kids will begin to wonder about our values and motives and whether they have any basis. Parents who reason with their kids allow them to understand and learn in a nonjudgmental way.

Make your expectations clear. If there is a problem, describe it, express your feelings, and invite your child to work on a solution with you. Be sure to include consequences. Make suggestions and offer choices. Be open to your child’s suggestions as well. Negotiate. Kids who participate in decisions are more motivated to carry them out.

  1. Be Flexible and Willing to Adjust Your Parenting Style

If you often feel “let down” by your child’s behavior, perhaps you have unrealistic expectations. Parents who think in “shoulds” (for example, “My kid should be potty-trained by now”) might find it helpful to read up on the matter or to talk to other parents or child development specialists.

Kids’ environments have an effect on their behavior, so you might be able to change that behavior by changing the environment. If you find yourself constantly saying “no” to your 2-year-old, look for ways to alter your surroundings so that fewer things are off-limits. This will cause less frustration for both of you.

As your child changes, you’ll gradually have to change your parenting style. Chances are, what works with your child now won’t work as well in a year or two.

Teens tend to look less to their parents and more to their peers for role models. But continue to provide guidance, encouragement, and appropriate discipline while allowing your teen to earn more independence. And seize every available moment to make a connection!

  1. Show That Your Love Is Unconditional

As a parent, you’re responsible for correcting and guiding your kids. But how you express your corrective guidance makes all the difference in how a child receives it.

When you have to confront your child, avoid blaming, criticizing, or fault-finding, which undermine self-esteem and can lead to resentment. Instead, strive to nurture and encourage, even when disciplining your kids. Make sure they know that although you want and expect better next time, your love is there no matter what.

  1. Know Your Own Needs and Limitations as a Parent

Face it — you are an imperfect parent. You have strengths and weaknesses as a family leader. Recognize your abilities — “I am loving and dedicated.” Vow to work on your weaknesses — “I need to be more consistent with discipline.” Try to have realistic expectations for yourself, your spouse, and your kids. You don’t have to have all the answers — be forgiving of yourself.

And try to make parenting a manageable job. Focus on the areas that need the most attention rather than trying to address everything all at once. Admit it when you’re burned out. Take time out from parenting to do things that will make you happy as a person (or as a couple).

Focusing on your needs does not make you selfish. It simply means you care about your own well-being, which is another important value to model for your children.

Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency over the years has had its own fair share of the good, the bad and the ugly awards, with tongues wagging if community awards are yet so valuable in today’s society.

According to the CELCE-AFRICA boss, “Great achievements are accompanied by great results. LAGOS4LAGOS : THEY WERE PERPETUALLY RABBLE ROUSING AND UNGOVERNABLE – APC SPOKESMAN

PUSH NEWS 24 INTERNATIONAL : December 4th, 2021

The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in a Swift response to the defection of the Lagos4Lagos Movement from the APC to the PDP have described the defection as a good riddance to a mole within the party.

The spokesman of the APC described the group as ungovernable and rabble rousing while claiming to be members of the party.

All Progressives Congress, APC, Lagos chapter, has described the purported defection of a group within it, Lagos4Lagos movement as “good riddance to bad rubbish.”

The Lagos4Lagos group had on Saturday, announced its decision to join Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state from APC, over irreconcilable differences.

Below is the official release from the APC as obtained by Push News 24 International.

Hon. Seye Oladejo, a former Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations during Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration is the Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos State chapter.

RE-DECLARATION OF LAGOS FOR LAGOS GROUP FOR PDP.
Our attention has been drawn to the purported decision of the recently formed Lagos for Lagos group in APC to declare for the PDP. We acknowledge the constitutional right of the leaders and members of the group to associate with any party of their choice without sparing a thought for morals, principles , antecedents, perennial history of political defeats and inconsistency in their selling point.
We watched with utter amusement and amazement as they were received by a symbol of democracy, in their own reckoning , a proven fighter against god fatherism who literally turned his state to his fiefdom before the revolution of the people burst his bubble.
It’s such an irony to the well-mouthed battle cry by the group against god fatherism and undemocratic practices that they chose a curious personality as their political undertaker.
Perhaps it’s a case of an expired and foreign god father posing less danger to a group that is desperate for a home and power.
It is important to note that our suspicion of the group acting as a mole in the ruling Lagos APC has come to pass.
During their short stint, they were perpetually rabble rousing, ungovernable and would only live by their own set of rules and regulations.
All efforts to make overtures to engender lasting reconciliation were rebuffed since it didn’t include a gubernatorial ticket for their leader.
Our admonition to the group that their brand of politics which harps on sectionalism and discrimination of a whole lot of Lagosians who have no other place to call home was alien to our progressive party fell on deaf ears.
It’s also interesting and contradictory to note that their leader is also a god-father of some sort who also emerged as their leader without any electoral conduct. He continues to mislead his largely misguided followers for his selfish ambition.
We note with keen interest the confirmation of their new god-father of their long period of association and their boast to win the next elections.
Perhaps they need to be reminded that Lagos state has always been a progressive state even in the face of well orchestrated threats and power play. Their new hosts should be honest enough to tell them that losing elections since the advent of democratic governance has been their lot which they have accepted as their destiny.
We also note their assurance to resurrect the PDP in Lagos which no doubt is uncomplimentary to their new soulmates.
We want to congratulate them for finally finding a home in a homeless party. However, our doors in APC remain open to receive and rehabilitate them , true to the proven characters of our leaders, after burning their fingers as expected.
I guess the transfer season towards 2023 elections has commenced in earnest.
We will meet at the polls and I can assure you that Lagos state APC remains undaunted by a group whose departure is a good riddance to bad rubbish.
Our party will definitely not be distracted as we continue to support our government to finish strongly.

Lagos State APC Spokesman,

LAGOS4LAGOS: APC LEADER IN IKORODU DIVISION DEFECTS TO PDP, SHADES TINUBU

PUSH NEWS 24 INTERNATIONAL : December 4, 2021

LAGOS4LAGOS: APC LEADER IN IKORODU DIVISION DEFECTS TO PDP, SHADES TINUBU

Princess Adenrele Ogunsanya

A former Secretary to the Lagos State Government and a leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ikorodu Local Government Area, Princess Adenrele Adeniran Ogunsanya, has publicly declared and identified with the People Democratic Party (PDP) confirming rumours of her earlier romance with her former political party, the PDP.

Push News 24 International confirmed her presence at the formal recognition of her group the Lagos4Lagos Movement at an event in Lagos on Saturday which signalled the formal acceptance and recognition of the group as part of the PDP by the former Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki.

Adenrele in one of the Lagos4Lagos Press Conference

Speaking at the event in company of the groups governorship candidate and other executives, Princess Denrele who sits at the top of the Board of Trustees of the Lagos4Lagos Movement said there’s need for fairness and justice in any party and the PDP represents what her group need to achieve their aspirations.

Flanked by the lead convener of Lagos4Lagos, Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran popularly known as Jandor, Senator Bukola Saraki, Director of Media and Strategy, Lagos4Lagos, Seun Soyinka and the Central Coordinator, Funke Ijaiyekunle, Denrele said a lot of people are not happy with what’s happening in Lagos where one man controls everything, and people are afraid to challenge the status quo, “that can no-longer be accepted”.

Aderenle who herself was said to be a beneficiary of what she so condemned defected initially from the PDP to the APC where the same god-fathers of Lagos politics imposed her on the members of the party as SSG despite other existing qualified persons, says she has confidence in the leadership of Jandor to return Lagos State to it’s rightful place, hence, her decision to endorse the groups movement to the PDP.

Despite several denials of the real intensions of the Lagos4Lagos Movement over their anti-party activities while in the APC particularly conducting a parallel State Congress in Lagos State their antics seems to be obvious to the leadership of the party in the State who had on several occasions ignored their several threats by the group of been in the majority.

It’s only fair for a party that lay claim to being democratic as its credo to institutionalize internal democracy for all to contest without imposition of unpopular candidates“, Aderenle stressed.

Senator Saraki and Jandor at the official event recognizing Lagos4Lagos into PDP

To Denrele, She’s not happy that APC lacks internal democracy in Lagos State and only answers to the whims and caprices of one man. “I’m not so happy with what’s going on in Lagos . You are aware of what’s going on. When you are not allowed to air your views . It’s disgraceful that a state like Lagos can’t comport itself. I’m sure the National leadership of the Party are taking cognizance of what’s going on. I know something must be done right. Nobody can deny That Lagos4Lagos is the strongest group in Lagos APC. They have been issuing threats. I’m not afraid of their threats. At 73, I don’t want my children and grandchildren to ask, “ what did you do to change the system.” Millions of people in Lagos are not happy with what’s going on, but they are afraid. I came out openly to stand with Lagos4Lagos because I saw courage which is lacking in our politicians. And I saw genuine feelings for the people. I’m not looking for position, but I want Lagos to regain her pride of place.” the former SSG added.

Words on the streets has it that Princess Aderenle seems not to have been able to redeem her relationship with the APC power brokers who were not satisfied with her inglorious role during the Governor Ambode seconds term saga, hence, her decision to go for the gun powder despite been apportuned to nominate candidates in the recent local government elections in Ikorodu. Ikorodu Division have a history of always been known to have some of her leadership leave the main stream ruling party to pursue their personal ambitions; Senator Ogunlewe defected in similar manner only to return back to same party in the State.

Push News 24 International has it from a credible source that the Governor Buni led Caretaker Committee has refused to recognize the Lagos4Lagos Movement, hence, their decision to seek refuge in the PDP with the hope that Jandor will clinch the governorship candidate ticket in 2023.

With about 14 months to the general elections, Nigerians are in for an era of political innuendos.

2023 : MINISTER OF YOUTHS POSTERS FLOOD OYO STATE

PUSH NEWS 24 INTERNATIONAL : December 1st, 2021

Ahead of the 2023 general election across the federation, the posters of the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare’s Governorship Posters have flooded his home state, Oyo as well as various social media platforms.

Sunday Dare’s reputation as a journalist of conscience will require a catalogue to capture. I got to know him on the pages of TheNews and Tempo Magazines during the post-June 12, 1993 Presidential election imbroglio and the ensuing struggle to re-validate the sanctity of the mandate freely given by Nigerians to the winner, Late Chief M.K.O Abiola.

Two of the posters available to our Correspondent declared Mr Dare as the “People Choice 2023″

With “Vote Sunday Dare for Governor Oyo State” cospicously written on both.

The posters are said to be sponsored by “Dad’s Foundation”.

At TheNews, he was one of the popular young Turks like Bagauda Kaltho, Lara Owoeye-Wise, Ebenezer Obadare, Jenkins Alumona, Akin Adesokan, Ademola Adegbamigbe, Bamidele Johnson and Henry Ugbolue among others who were mentored by the irrepressible Bayo Onanuga, Kunle Ajibade, Babafemi Ojudu, Idowu Obasa and Dapo Olorunyomi. Sunday Dare and his cohorts at TheNews were undeniably the hotheads of guerilla journalism who irritated, in no small measure, the Abacha Military Junta with penetrating and exclusive stories that exposed the underbelly of the military government’s political chicanery.

Although rumours of his governorship ambition has been mooted around in quarters, Mr Dare has not declare is political ambition to be the governor of Oyo State.

Oyo State is currently controlled by the People’s Democratic Party, PDP under the governorship of Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde.

As if to buttress my conviction about his suitability, the Vanguard Newspaper recently x-rayed profiles of ministerial nominees, and that of Sunday Dare stood out as an intellectual and political communication lodestar. The profile read like that of a man on a continuous quest to unlock the door to personal excellence; a man with a will to win, the desire to succeed, and the urge to reach full potential. Indeed President Buhari made a good choice in the Minister-designate from Oyo State.

Mr Dare, a former commissioner in the Nigeria Communication Commission, NCC, was appointed minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria overseeing the ministry of youth and sports on August 21, 2019.

His close to two years stewardship is not without controversies and good records.
